Even when you know you should go to the doctor, you may delay making an appointment due to anxiety over concerns about what may happen. To alleviate these fears, we at Clayton Chiropractic in Clayton, NC, are offering this guide to what to expect. It is our hope that this will show that coming to our chiropractor for chronic pain is nothing to fear.
Just like other doctors' offices, we need to know some things about you. You'll be asked your medical history, the history of your current problem, and your current symptoms.
Soon after you get to the exam room, Dr. Lloyd will come in to see you. He'll ask for more details about your condition and symptoms. Be sure to tell him about any tingling, numbness or weakness as well as describing your pain.
Now, the doctor will feel your spine and any joints that are involved in the symptoms you are suffering. He may check your limbs for a range of motion, have you walk around while he watches your gait, or have you make other moves to help him pin down the cause of the problem.
Typically, your back will be X-rayed, only when clinically necessary, to check for any anomalies that can show up on film. Depending on your condition and the suspected underlying problems, you may receive an MRI scan, as well.
Now that all the information is in, the doctor can give you your diagnosis and treatment plan. He'll give you the details of the plan and how long it should last to bring about full relief.
In some cases, you'll get your first chiropractic, neurological or orthopedic treatment during this visit. This may be a complete treatment, or it could be a shorter one meant to bring some immediate relief and get you familiar with the treatment process. You'll have further treatments as the weeks go on.
